Cooper is excited to announce a major sustainability milestone: together with our partner Plastic Bank, we have helped recover the equivalent of more than 500 million plastic water bottles from the environment. That’s more than 10 million kilograms of plastic prevented from polluting our waterways. If we were to line up all of those bottles end-to-end, we could circumnavigate the Earth twice. If we stacked them vertically, they would go a quarter of the way to the moon!
Plastic Bank is a global bottle-deposit program that tackles both plastic pollution and poverty. Through this program, collectors around the world gather discarded plastic and exchange it for income and essential benefits that support their families. The recovered plastic is then transformed into plastic feedstock for new, recycled products, promoting circularity.
This initiative not only supports environmental sustainability, but also uplifts coastal communities. Thousands of collectors have gained access to healthcare, groceries, education, and many other benefits and services. Through our partnership with Plastic Bank, we are advancing our commitment to sustainability and plastic waste reduction while living out one of CooperCompanies’ core values: “Do the right thing.”
We are honored to partner with Plastic Bank to make a meaningful impact in nearly five hundred coastal communities in countries like Indonesia and beyond.
This incredible achievement was made possible by the dedication of Plastic Bank and our Sustainability team. Together, we’re supporting a greener planet for all.
